A Seashell In A Sea Of Shells
Who wants to sleep in a city that never wakes up, blinded by nostalgia?
A Music Question for People

just me
After watching Collective Soul "Home" I am fully for the idea of more rock groups using orchestra.

Here's something for you to ponder:

What band(s) do you think would work well with an added orchestra? If possible, provide songs that you feel they must play. (Remember, this is opinion, so there is no right or wrong.) I'll start. I have a few.

First, I think I would like to hear Finger Eleven with an orchestra.
The songs that I feel should be done:
Above
Awake And Dreaming
Bones + Joints
Famous
For The Ocean
Obvious Heart
One Thing
Shudder
Sick Of It All
Stay And Drown
Therapy
Thousand Mile Wish [A MUST]

Next I would say Foo Fighters. I feel like this has been done, but if not it should. These songs:
A320 [A MUST]
Baker Street
Best Of You
Everlong
February Stars
Miracle
Monkey Wrench (with Doll)
My Hero
My Poor Brain
Next Year
On The Mend
Times Like These
Walking After You
Wind Up

And then there's System Of A Down, which needs a concert with orchestration. Think about it, it would be insane. I'd love to see these songs there:
Aerials
Chop Suey!
Highway Song
Holy Mountains
Hypnotize
Metro
Psycho
Question!
Roulette
Soldier Side
Spiders
Streamline
Suggestions
Toxicity

Then, Cold.
A Different Kind Of Pain [A MUST. Could you imagine this?? In fact, most of this album could work.]
Bleed
Cure My Tragedy
Don't Belong
End Of The World
Gone Away
Insane
No One
Remedy
Wasted Years [Another must.]
Yesterday

And Finally (sleep is a good thing), Staind...
Crawl
Epiphany [It would work so well]
Everything Changes
Fade
For You
Home
How About You
Intro [It practically uses an orchestra]
Just Go
Outside
Please
Pressure
Price To Play
Reply
Right Here
Safe Place
So Far Away [A MUST]
Yesterday
Zoe Jane

So I'd love to hear your choices! Peace!

Yee, Orchestra!!!

Don't have answers at the moment but a question: do you think those songs should have an orchestra added to the already-existing band, or be completely redone to be just orchestra and vocals?

I think both versions might be really interesting.

I guess ... I'd love to hear Bob Seger's (think I spelled that right ...) "Roll Me Away" redone to (include) orchestra. It's one of my favorite songs.

I mean the band with an orchestra.

Hmm, Seger is a great artist, but I don't think I know that one. I'd like to hear it sometime.

Naturally I had to comment on this entry :)

And after much thought I haven't got as much as I would like but I'll throw in my double pennies.

Of course I need to mention Live who could contribute nearly any one of their songs for orchestral sprucing but particularly:

The Dolphins Cry
Run to the Water
They Stood Up For Love
Overcome
Dance With You
Heaven
The River
Lakini's Juice
I Alone
Lightning Crashes
Selling the Drama
All Over You
Turn My Head
Beauty of Grey
Operation Spirit

I also think the following bands would have interesting combinations with orchestral arrangements:

System, APC, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Death Cab for Cutie, and Green Day

Of that standout tracks would be (I feel):

Aerials, Spiders, Lost in Hollywood
3 Libras, Judith, The Hollow, The Noose
Head Like A Hole, Piggy, Hurt, Right Where It Belongs
I Will Follow You Into The Dark, Soul Meets Body, Transatlanticism
All of American Idiot!

Agreed on all accounts, and completely forgot about Lost In Hollywood.

For Green Day, I think additional standout tracks COULD be:
Brain Stew (not necessarily Jaded though)
Macy's Day Parade
Good Riddance (much as I hate to say it)
Panic Song
Redundant

Good calls all around *blows a noisemaker* [for some reason]
Now just to get the bands to listen us...*Raises fist of authority* Man this thing is heavy...need some help here *collapses* :P

I guess Interspersed can do the orchestral concert/CD/DVD after 5 albums? 5 seems like a good number :)

Hehehehe. *grasps fist of authority and helps hold it and Coz up*

I think 5 albums would be good. I imagine our "mature" album would be out by then, which would probably hold a lot of songs that could make good use of orchestra.

Dude... Staind Epiphany with an orchestra... we should so arrange that. I used to play my sax along with the CD... there are tones in there that could make the song sound so much richer. Easy to play, too. Then again, I have no idea what (if any) your skills as a musician are. But this needs doing!

Also, it'd be a lot of fun trying to watch Pearl Jam do "Ten" with an orchestra. They'd mostly fail (not their thing), but it would be worth it if they pulled off "Black".

My skills are heading in the direction of competent, but not at any great speed. I can handle chord progressions that don't involve barre and very basic lead.

But I agree, it needs to be done, and as far as Pearl Jam...maybe. I'd only be worried that they'd also try to pull in "Last Kiss" and that song does absolutely nothing for me. But the album "Ten"...would be interesting.
